Verde Trout in Fossil Creek
You might know them as 'roundtail chub', but others call them 'verde trout'. This Arizona native fish (once nearly extinct) technically falls in the minnow family.
The past couple of years the Arizona Game and Fish Department have been working to create a special blue-ribbon catch-and-release fishery for these fish in the creek. This new fishery will open in October 2009.
Artificial lures and baits (small spinners, spoons, flies, worms and crickets) are effective in catching roundtail chubs. Fishing with ultra-light tackle can add to the excitement when catching these fish.
