Annual Game & Fish Outdoor Expo

The 2009 Game and Fish Outdoor Expo will be held on March 28 - 29, 2009 at the Ben Avery Shooting Range. This expo draws thousands of enthusiasts every year. Best of all - admission is FREE (and so is parking).

The event will run both days from 9 am til 5 pm. There will be loads of activities for everybody including hands-on demonstrations and workshops for fishing. Last year there was even a catch-and-release fish tank for kids.

This expo is a great family event. So mark your calendars!

Verde Trout in Fossil Creek

You might know them as 'roundtail chub', but others call them 'verde trout'. This Arizona native fish (once nearly extinct) technically falls in the minnow family.

The past couple of years the Arizona Game and Fish Department have been working to create a special blue-ribbon catch-and-release fishery for these fish in the creek. This new fishery will open in October 2009.

Artificial lures and baits (small spinners, spoons, flies, worms and crickets) are effective in catching roundtail chubs. Fishing with ultra-light tackle can add to the excitement when catching these fish.
